Pioneering Armenian American Writers by Bedros Keljik—Lou Ann Matossian describes the work of Keljik, an Armenian revolutionary who left the Ottoman Empire in 1890 for the United States eventually settling in Minnesota where he worked closely with the Friends of Armenia and used his writing to describe Armenian life for American audiences. He was corresponded with Alice Stone Blackwell. The Boston Globe wrote about his coming to the United States in an 1894 article. Keljik’s Armenian American Sketches provides stories of immigrant experiences in the United States, capturing humorous and sad stories of the Armenian experience and deepens understanding of Armenian identity.
