Biography of Ivan Aivazovsky
Ivan Aivazovsky was a famous painter who was born in Crimea in 1817 but was of Armenian descent. His real Armenian name was Hovhannes Aivazian. He always felt connected to his Armenian roots even though he lived in Ukraine. Aivazovsky often helped the Armenian community by giving money to support Armenian churches and schools. He also created several paintings that showed Armenian history and culture, which showed how proud he was of his heritage.
