Women and the Armenian Genocide
Including the specific experiences of women during genocide is essential to understanding the full scope of atrocity and survival. Women often face gendered forms of violence, including sexual violence, forced displacement, and the destruction of familial and social structures. Their roles as caregivers, resistance fighters, and community rebuilders also shape the post-genocide narrative in critical ways. Recognizing these experiences not only honors the victims and survivors but also deepens our understanding of genocide’s impact and the need for justice, accountability, and education.
